I think the character in this cartoon has a point. If there’s a low statistic of something happening then why worry about it. However, just because there’s a low chance of something happening doesn’t mean we should ignore it completely. We should always have a plan just in case the unthinkable happens

This tells us that people like to live more on the “Y.O.L.O” life. We are going to die eventually, so why not take that chance of getting hit by lighting instead of fearing it for the rest of your life.

I guess it just all depends on the person. Some people are afraid of taking risks. Some people live in the dark and never really live there lives just because they are afraid of taking risks. Taking risks is all apart of actually living, trying new things should be exciting and open up people to new things so they can actually live a real life.

I think the cartoon is a perfect form of satire with the facts presents about the death rates. The characters logic in a way is morbid but correct with saying that their is only 1 in 7,000,000 deaths from lighting a year. This also tells us that statistics can help us acknowledge the percent of risk that we are in.

This cartoon is dark, I do not like it. Do to reading this I have a higher chance to do by lightening than anyone else. The logic of the cartoon is dark because he is pretty much saying we have a chance of dying. No I haven’t been in a similar situation because I don’t go playing with lighting. It shows that when we here the stats of something to help go through with something easier.

The cartoon represents something that most people would actually say. The character’s logic might be that you never know who is going to be next, and it will most likely not be them. I have been in a similar situation, but I did not have the second character’s logic; I was more like the first one. I would think that it could possibly be us. This tells us that we should not fully rely on the statistics, and it is better to be safe than sorry.

What I interpreted from the cartoon is that taking risks? Even though you know the chances of something but you still go ahead and do it anyways. It is okay to try things that are risky at times but never to a extent to like risking your life in danger. Then again a lot of things we do can risk our lives even driving something most people do in everyday life especially in public transportation. The meaning of this is take risks but do not be idiotic.

This comic strip cartoon relates to the way some people think. The character has a free way of thinking. Anything can happen to anyone at any given time but he takes risks. Yes I have been in similar situations. For example, I am a thrill seeker, I like to ride roller coasters, and I like to challenge my self to face my fears. Most of my friends are afraid of heights and they think that I am crazy for “risking my life” to seek adventures. I tell them anything can happen in life, a person can hit by a bus just walking down the street, they should not live in fear and just live life to the fullest.

It’s a funny joke. It seems like a comic made to poke fun at someone who always cites the statistic risk factor of an activity. Honestly, it just seems to be a thing to say that a thing can’t happen to you since it’s so unlikely. It’s probably the same thought that people diagnosed with cancer or who get into a car crash think whenever they hear the statistics for car crashes and cancer.
A better real life statistic example is that 1 in 11.5 million will get attacked by a shark. A few weeks ago in a Florida beach, a teenage girl was attacked in the leg by a shark. Paramedics arrived and took the girl away but soon came back for another teen who was attacked by a shark on that same beach, 90 minutes later.
So if you like statistics and hope they will protect you, they don’t. At least from sharks.

I find the cartoon rather comical, it merges comedy with facts which allows it to be rather entertaining but informative. The characters logic is rather ignorant of his current situation. He wishes to continue on his path in order to avoid consequences, even if those consequences are fatal or if possible deadly. The cartoon allows its audience to take in the scene and make sense of the situation. The statistics in the cartoon allows the audience to take certain precautions in case one were to ever face this situation.

I think that this cartoon is stupid because not many people will be willing to rely on statistics to make life decisions. The reasoning behind this characters choice is that if so few people get hit then why not be out if he isn’t going to most likely be the one to get hit. I don’t think that I have ever been in a situation like this before. I think that statistics are usually wrong. I also think that we rely on statistics so much that we miss out on the opportunities that are in front of us that we face almost everyday and they face us to make or choose something that we didn’t want in the first place.

I think that people always think that why wont be the one to die or get hit by whatever the statistic is. They think just because its a statistic there chances are are slim to none and just go on living there life. Like the other day i had heard that 9 out of 10 people that get hit by lightning live so i was like “oh i want to get hit by lightning just to see what its like, i wont die, what are the chances id be that 1 of 10 people”. The cartoon shows us that it is really rare to get shocked by thunder. The character’s logic is you would have to be really unlucky to experience such a rare thing. I personally have been this particular situation when I was rushing back home from school and during that period I did not care at all nor did I ever think of the thunder because it make senses when it comes to thunder, you will probably never be going to get shocked by thunder for your entire life, so I kept running till I get home. I believe this tells us about statistics and it really applies to our daily life, we believe in common sense and this makes us think that we are never going to experience it thus we think that it is rare.

I think that it’s a pretty funny cartoon. It might even be poking fun at what we all actually think about statistics. The character’s logic is that there’s only a one in 7,000,000th chance of dying by being struck by lightning. He thinks his chances of living are good so he just wants to keep on going. What I find very funny is what is written on the bottom, “The annual death rate among people who know that statistic is one in six”. It is probably meant to scare the people who see this carton. The statistics themselves are probably made up anyway, so I’m not scared. Did you know that 34% of statistics are made up (yes, maybe even this one). The thing about statistics is that many people don’t realize that they are using it in their everyday lives. I don’t even notice when I use it half the time. We really only think about statistics when we really want to and that’s what I think about statistics.

I think this cartoon is cool. But if that was me and I had to get home or some place where I was going to I would just keep walking. I mean everything is a risk if you look at it a certain way walking down the sidewalk in the middle of the day could get you killed by a drunk driver running off the road over the curb and into you. Its just you have to pay attention to the surroundings but that doesn’t help much either.

Adorable cartoon. The character is using statistics to help his friend stay an continue on with the experiment. The logic is sound. Yes, I have been in a situation like this. We were playing golf at country club when the weather just got awful. We of coarse were on the far end near the 11th green. We had to make an executive decision. We stayed away from trees dropped our clubs and ran. We lived that day. We made it to golf again… a couple hours later. Statistics build our confidence and increase our chances of survival theoretically.

I think the cartoon is very funny. The cartoon logic is that the chances of them getting stuck by lighting is a really small chance but yet one of them is still afraid. No, I have never been in a similar situation. Statistics affect the way we think by the choices we make because if statically proven that something is dangerous then we have a less likely chance of doing it. On the other hand if statistics prove that it is safer then we will most likely try it.

I love to play scratch off cards, and I think spending more then 1 dollar on a card is just ridiculous. I also know that the probability of winning is 1 to 1,000, but there have been many occasions where I have won up to 60 dollars. So I think my chances are pretty good, and when ever I feel lucky I get one.

I think the cartoon is funny because there is a low risk of getting strike by lighting. I remember when the lottery was high, they would say that you are more likely to get strike by lighting 4 times than win the lottery. It’s actually crazy to walk during a thunderstorm. I’ve thought about it but I never feared of getting hit by lighting.

This cartoon is pretty silly because of the drawings and situation. The character is trying to show that not a lot of people really get struck by lighting and die like we think. when I was 17 me and my cousin went outside to get milk for our grandmother and almost got hit by lighting. in today’s world we seem to always go by statistics and let it run are life in fear instead of just waiting to see ourselves.

There’s clearly a low probability of receiving a lightning shock, therefore the character isn’t really worried, although it’s a pretty risky action.
I’ve been in a similar situation as the character is in. I was pretty afraid at the beginning of running outside my grandfather’s farm while a thunderstorm was going on. Although there was a low probability of dying, I still made a serious consideration if going out or not.

I do not know what to think about this cartoon, clearly one guy knows the statistics of one in six people dying from lightening strikes and he’s all about taking chances cause he doesn’t believe him and his worried friend will be the one in 6 to be struck by the lightening. this similar situation has happened to me but not with a lightening storm. It was a time where me and some buddies were doing parkour, like ninja warrior s#!% and there was a big gap from building to building and there’s a slight statistic on whether people fail to make the gap and make it so I took the risk and chance to vault it knowingly I may have missed it by a few inches but in reality it can be caused by over thinking the situation or just going without any thought to it. This cartoon shows us that statistics make people think and rely on them for one being that they can think they will not be the one in a million.

In this cartoon their is clearly a trajectory to meet (destination), I think all these factors play an important role in the characters involved. Taking into consideration they are in a storm I can conclude that this man with the “known fact” is clearly focused as heck…in conclusion this statistic they rely on gives them hope and a period of “invincibility”.
